Designing Research and Development organisation fit for now and for the future
Key pillars: concentration & fluidity of resources, empowerment & communication

Organisational Design

The brief

A global player with a complex matrix structure was undergoing organisational transformation and wanted to ensure that Research, Development and Quality organization is aligned with the fluid business and highly competitive environment.

How we helped

Shared best practices from personal experiences working for corporate global organisations covering resources, business, systems, effective cross-functional engagement, and multidisciplinary team management.

We shared key factors that needed to be considered for the RD&Q structure in complex matrix organisations including but not limited to:

  • Concentration – focus some resources and energy on the chosen critical priorities
  • Critical roles – as it says on the tin
  • Strength and fluidity of resources – RD&Q pinnacles
  • Empowerment – with a clear vision and strategy and RD&Q voice and alignment

NAD Innovation’s consulting approach considered:

  • Understanding current circumstances and needs, business and people
  • Identifying Blind spots
  • What, why and how
  • Recommendations

 The outcome

Recommended organizational design, structure and ways of working to improve functional KPIs and alignment with business and cross-functional teams.

Ensuring the R&D organisation is fit for today and the future.

One of the most important focus areas for an effective R&D organisation is effective communication across all levels: local to global and with internal and external partners.
